Organic toddler food is becoming more popular, and for good reasons. For good health, nutrition and healthy bodies it is important that we try to give our toddlers the best start possible. Organic foods are one way to do this.

There are many compelling reasons to feed toddlers organic foods over conventional foods. Issues related to children's health and proper growth and long-term health benefits all come into play.

There are benefits of organic foods no matter your age. However, some research relates that children may benefit more than adults. The main problem with conventional food is the amount of chemicals and pesticides found within them.

According to the Environmental Protection Agency, the following are some reasons why children's bodies may be harmed by pesticides in foods more so than adults bodies are harmed:

Toddlers are in the middle of a growth process, which means (unlike adults) their internal organs are still developing and shouldn't be exposed to pesticides.

Compared to adults, toddlers eat and drink more per their body weight, which may increase the pesticides they take in.

Toddlers tend to play on surfaces affected by pesticides; for example, grass that has been treated with pesticides or a kitchen floor where people walk (shoes are notorious for gathering pesticides). Add this to the pesticides they ingest from food and the numbers of pesticides start adding up quickly. Pesticides might be responsible for blocking the absorption of proper nutrients.

Toddlers don't excrete everything as well as adults and may not be ridding their bodies of pesticides.

Many of us start taking nutrition more seriously once we have children. So the question of organic toddler food is often asked. Organic food may provide both peace of mind knowing your toddler is not ingesting toxic chemicals, hormones or antibiotics from common child friendly foods. So, organic food does have appeal.

Any organic food- including toddler foods, are foods grown without the use of pesticides. Organic animals products such as meats, poultry, milk or cheese, come from animals that are fed only organic feed. These animals should also not be given hormones or antibiotics. There is no governmental or health agency minimum or maximum level of pesticides or carry over hormones or antibiotics considered safe for organic toddler foods. Organic foods may or may not provide more nutrients than their non-organic counterparts. Nutrients from food come from the soil. Many organic farms take considerable care with their soil, as healthy soil helps them control pests naturally.
